Case No. 18/9 - A Case Study Movie


Do you want to educate a teenage girl with the prevailing social issues and make her identify various booby traps that she may encounter? Then, Case N0. 18/9 (வழக்கு எண் 18/9) is the apt movie to take her to. Set in the backdrop of the present day chennai metro city, the director Balaji Sakthivel is flawless in capturing the reality from a road side food stall to the apartment life style. Casting is never a question in the movies taken by this director. No one ever could question the acting skills of the actor Muthuraman - the Inspector, He qualifies to be recruited as a real inspector with his skills :-). With a completely new team of artists, musician and an experienced cinematographer Vijay Milton, Balaji Sakthivel has presented the story in a documentary style.

Velu - the newcomer Sri, a street side food bearer falls in love with a servant maid Jothi (Urmila Mahanta).Not much interactions are portrayed to carry forward a depth in their love life and there is a dream song which depicts their happy married life. The story moves with couple of social issue additions such as farm lands turning into housing projects, social inequality and abuse of disabled persons until the top cop Kumaravel (Muthuraman) picks up Velu to investigate the incident that had brought Jothi to the emergency Ward. The investigation unravels the various incidents that took place in their locality through 1. Velu's Point of View and 2. Dinesh's Point of View. Dinesh (Mithun Murali) and Aarthi (Manisha Yadav) are high school students residing at the same apartment and their tryst with modern day infactuation brings in a lovely educational material. And with no spoilers here, the movie is worth a watch as an educative documentary material.
